Who We Are
Fornaszewski Music is a full-service retail music store at 3009 Nameoki Road, Granite City, Illinois, owned by The Fornaszewski (for-na-shev-skee) Family for 60+ years.
In 1957, Steelworker, Stan Fornaszewski purchased local grocery store "Elliott's Market," becoming "Stan's Market". 
Stan's son, John Fornaszewski worked at the market, and taught drum lessons in the back. In 1960, John opened "John Fornaszewski Drum Studio" with 70+ students weekly, while performing nightly with popular local St Louis area bands.
In 
1962, John rebuilt half of the building, and expanded to a full-service music store "John Fornaszewski Music Store / Drum Shop" in 1963.
In February 1964, "The Beatles" hit the USA like a storm, and the music industry took off like a rocket ship. Some music manufacturers were facing 2-3 years of back orders. By July 1964, the grocery store was officially closed and John took over the entire property. John operated the store some 51 years - teaching hundreds of music students, performing with his band, other local bands, servicing professional touring bands, and bringing many famous musicians and celebrities to the Granite City/St Louis area to meet local musicians. In December 2014, John passed and his son, Stan Fornaszewski
(musician/bandleader) took over the business.
Stan say's, "I grew up in the music store. Musical instruments were everywhere,and everyday 
I would learn something new about music, musicians, or instruments, including how to tune them, play them, teach them, sell them, service them, and repair them. I started learning to play musical instruments at age of 3, began performing with professionally bands at 10, private teaching at 16, college at 18, and for almost 40 years, I made a living performing with world famous bands/entertainers while booking my own big band regionally. I was always Dad's right hand man with the store. I knew the business. I had been selling vintage music items online since 2000, and taking over and doing more with the business was always a natural progression."
Today, Stan and his wife operate several businesses, including "Fornaszewski Music Online," "Fornaszewski Music," and "Online Music Lessons with Stan Fornaszewski" - serving music students and customers throughout the USA and the world. <stanf.com> Stan says, "When you love what you do, it isn't work.
